Spring cleaning with the pruners
Each season requires a special type of pruning. In spring it is primarily the turn of the bushes, shrubs and herbs. It is the right time when prolonged frost is no longer to be expected. This can be as early as March, but you are on the safe side from April. The following in your garden will be glad of skilful spring pruning: Early-flowering plants such as forsythia and kerria japonica after they have flowered If necessary, thin out clematis of group 1 Bring into shape hedges of box and Leyland cypress Pruning berry bushes Train newly planted privet and hawthorn bushes Cut back hydrangea and dead perennials from the previous year Rose pruning to remove frozen stems and to prune back
The best way to prune
When pruning, the aim on the one hand is to get your decorative shrubs back into shape. On the other hand, you also want to be able to enjoy many new flowers again this year. For that reason you can dare to prune back more severely. It is important…
Supporting bushes and shrubs
Since many bushes and shrubs produce an especially large amount of sap in spring, it is better to make use of a frost-free period in December to prune them. You can also plant new ones in unfrozen ground with no problems. On days with no frost you should also water young plants without large roots lavishly.
Disposing of autumn foliage in an environmentally-friendly way
Would you like to see a new display of flowers in your garden in early spring? Then dig the ground for your planned flowerbeds in the late autumn. It is helpful to mix in leaves and half-rotted compost into the soil. The frost then does the rest of the work for you and ensures that the clods of earth of heavy soil break up easily. This means that you have a loose and fine soil for your plants in the spring.

Overwintering potted plants
Do not forget to protect your delicate potted plants against winter and cold. But where exactly should they go? Plants from warm areas like it somewhat warmer, around 10 – 15 °C. Mediterranean plants can overwinter well at 5 – 10 °C in an unheated garage or in a stairwell. And plants that discard their leaves do well in a dark cellar at up to 10 °C.

Fertilizing in the autumn
Using the <link http://www.wolf-garten.de/produkte/rasen/saatgut-duenger/detail/produkt/lk-b-100-rasenduenger-herbst-500/ _top - "Opens internal link in current window">"Rasendünger Herbst" autumn lawn fertilizer from WOLF-Garten you can make your lawn ready for the winter. The reason is the potassium that it contains, which is stored in the cells and acts just like antifreeze by lowering the freezing point. This means that your plants can also survive lower temperatures and have more energy as well when they awake from their winter sleep in early spring and flower all the more splendidly.
Cutting back ivy
You can almost see ivy grow. Unfortunately, it also grows in places such as windows where it should not be. In order to keep it under control in time and also to care for it, you can cut back the new shoots of your ivy several times a year without any qualms. Then you once again have a clear view and your ivy recovers quickly.
Cleaning up annuals
It is essential to prune off faded flowers, e.g. from fuchsia or geraniums. Then all the energy goes into the healthy parts and your annuals flower much longer. In addition, this prevents grey mould from spreading.
